Celtic Salmon take delivery of HS2 Salmon Stunners

Ace Aquatec Ltd. have recently completed a double installation of the 12" HS2 humane electrical stunner at Killary Salmon in Galway, Ireland. Jim Murrin – Managing Director – commented. "We were impressed by the stunning efficiency of the HS2.  The fish exited the machine as if they were dead which makes the job of gilling that much easier. The HS2 is very easy to use and our operators are delighted with the system. Our processors like the quality of the salmon which they graded as over 97% superior with a blood-spotting rate of 2%." Readers are reminded that the 12" HS2 machine is the world's fastest humane slaughterer with a capacity of 12 Tonnes per hour.

Commercial Cod Trials

In September 2007 Ace Aquatec reported that the electrical parameters for the humane slaughter of cod had been established definitively for the first time. On the 1st December Romsdal Processing AS became the first company to commercially kill cod using the 12" Ace Aquatec HS2 machine at Midsund in Norway. To date they have stunned 95 Tonnes of cod with the machine.  The quality of stunning is good and there have been no reports of any carcass quality problems. These commercial harvests demonstrate the versatility of the HS2 machine which can be produced in a variety of sizes and reprogrammed to humanely slaughter a wide variety of round fish.

Ace Aquatec cracks Cod

In what is believed to be the first comprehensive trials on humane electrical stunning of cod Dr Jeff Lines and Ace Aquatec have finalised the electrical parameters for this species. Dr Jeff Lines is arguably the UK's leading authority on electrical fish slaughter and has evolved the experimental techniques used in this definitive study.

A small scale quality trial showed that the preferred electrical treatment did not affect the carcass quality.

Launched in May this year the 12" HS2 (Salmon model) has exceeded its design capacity of 10 Tonnes per hour in recent trials in Norway achieving a peak loading of 23T/hr. With only minor modifications to the electronics Ace Aquatec is now in a position to offer this speed and efficiency for cod as well as salmon and large trout. Thanks to Trosc Teo of Carna in Co Galway for hosting the trials.

July 2007.

Ace Aquatec goes to Norway. Ace Aquatec and distibutor Alaxas A.S. installed the first 12" HS2 salmon stunner in Midsund . The system has been installed between the well boat and the factory so that the fish arrive at the gilling table within a minute of leaving the boat. Trials are still ongoing but the company is reportedly pleased with the simplicity of the machine, rate of harvest and flesh quality.

June 2007.

Humane Slaughter Association evaluates the HS2. The Humane Slaughter Association evaluated the 12" HS2 salmon stunner in Co Galway, Ireland on the 27th June 2007. The report (available on application to the HSA) found that the machine delivered a good standard of humane stun.

April 2007. First sale of 12" HS2 salmon stunner. Muir Ach Mahanni Teo agreed to accept the installed 12" HS2 salmon stunner and order a second to complete its harvesting operation on the 20th April 2007. The company had been working with Ace Aquatec since June 2006 suggesting design improvements and carrying out quality trails.

January 2007. StunfishFirst successfully completed. The EU funded CRAFT project was completed at the end of January 2007. This project involved scientists from Holland and Britain, fish farmers from all over Europe and the industrial partners Specialist Welding Services Ltd and Ace Aquatec. Ace Aquatec designed the 3 prototypes and Specialist Welding built machines. During the project the humane stunners - based on the HS2 design - stunned sea-bass, tilapia, eel and turbot in commercial settings.

August 2006. First Halibut trials Kames Fishfarming Ltd hosted Ace Aquatec's first prototype designed to stun flat-fish. Scientists from Bristol University confirmed the equipment was humane and the host company was impressed by the performance of the prototype. The test completed a Link project managed by Silsoe Livestock Research Ltd.

May 2006.

Ace Aquatec launches the US2. On the 16th May 2006 Ace Aquatec unvieled its new seal scarer at the Glasgow show. The Universal Scrammer Mk2 is functionally identical to its predessessor (AAUS) but incorporates several improvements to increase its reliability.

February 2006.

Ace Aquatec tests the HS2. Following years of research Ace Aquatec tested its new stunner at Fjord Seafoods on the 16th February 2006. The system is designed to stun marine species using recycled brackish water. The trial successfully stun/killed one tonne of salmon on the company's harvest barge.
