Silent Scramming

The Silent Scrammer system actively teaches seals using the principle of negative reinforcement. In the same way that farm animals are trained to electric fences or young dogs are trained not to steal food the Silent Scrammer only makes its loud irritating noise when seals are upsetting  the fish.

The system relies on the Trigger Device which is suspended in the growing pen and continuously monitors the behavior of the fish.  Within 50m any Trigger Device can signal any Silent Scrammer acoustically through the water.

Seals, being intelligent animals, quickly learn that the sound of the Trigger Device will herald the loud irritating scrammer noise. Seals therefore learn to avoid the noise by not harassing the fish.
